Festival Note
Jamie (Gabby Padilla) is hired to be a translator for filmmaker Makoto (Ken Yamamura) for a film festival in Bacolod. The two become friends, bonding over stories of heartbreak, and a language that Jamie made up. Jopy Arnaldo parses the way people communicate with each other, and the things that people don’t say. The film uses subtitles in novel ways, expressing what is unsaid between characters that cannot express what they are really feeling.
JOPY ARNALDO is Creative Director by day at MullenLowe Treyna, and a would-be director and writer even later at night. He has been obsessively directing short films and music videos, and writing feature film screenplays for the last few years.
Gitling is his full length film debut.
