Lionel and David (Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor) were students together at the Boston Music Conservatory in 1917. In 1920, the two travel together through rural Maine, collecting the folk music of the area in order to preserve them for future generations. Years later, amidst great success as a musician, Lionel is drawn back to the memory of those travels, and the deep connection he had with his colleague.
