The Worst Person in the World

The Worst Person in the World is a modern dramedy about the quest for love and meaning in contemporary Oslo. It chronicles four years in the life of Julie (Renate Reinsve), a young woman who navigates the troubled waters of her love life and struggles to find her career path, leading her to take a realistic look at who she really is.

Joachim Trier

Trier was born in Denmark and raised in Oslo, Norway. He studied at the European Film College in Ebeltoft, Denmark and at the National Film & Television School in the United Kingdom. Trier's debut film Reprise won prizes at film festivals in Toronto, Istanbul, Rotterdam, Milan, and Karlovy Vary.

His 2011 film Oslo, August 31st premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.The film received critical acclaim, awards and was featured on several critics' 2012 Top 10 lists.

In 2015, Trier directed the English-language film Louder Than Bombs (2015) starring Jesse Eisenberg, Gabriel Byrne, and Isabelle Huppert.It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. His fourth feature, a supernatural horror-romance called Thelma, was screened at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and was selected as the Norwegian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, held in 2018.

His latest film, The Worst Person in the World premiered to high acclaim in the Palme d'Or competition at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
